I feel proud to say one of my favourite days in the year is getting closer in time.
Poetry Day is not only a date to devote to poetry, but to emotions as the glue that binds us to other human beings.
One kid told me robots will be able to feel a poem. That will not happen. Poetry, literature, arts, music are linked to the very core of humans.
The chosen poet for 6º will be Edgar (Allan) Poe and his 'Annabel Lee'.
I heard that poem for the first time when I was 10 and it got me thinking.
Then, as an adult and, when I was going for my degree, we had to read ´The Man of The Crowd´ as one of the compulsory tasks in Literatura Norteamericana. I fell in love with that brief story.
Our kids in 6º will:
-Make a poster about the poem
-Cope with it in both languages
-Perform it as actors
-And sing the song about it (by Radio Futura)
It will be team work with the only target to make them realise once you are deprived of your fears, you become a monster. As long as you feel scared, you keep alive.
