This morning, Hugo was in charge of explaining how to operate and work with a programme that is operated by a 'magic' wizard wand.
There were 42 kids invited to attend it, arranged in two shifts.
They loved it and took some notes, since they will have to write some report about the lesson.

Os adjunto el video grabado por nuestra compañera del Departamento de Lengua,Inmaculada, como clausura de estas actividades realizadas por las dos con motivo del Día de la Poesía.Más adelante se publicarán los videos de la dramatización del poema y las entrevistas a algunos niños de la clase.

Kids in 6°A are finishing this weekly project devoted to poetry.
They have adapted 'The Lady of Shalott' (Alfred Lord Tennyson) to our 21st century, by rewriting their own poem based on it.
Other kids have drawn a poster resembling John William Waterhouse paintings about the poem.
Some others will sing the song based on it, while three more kids read it aloud and perform it.
Other kids have written down some of the most powerful lines in its verses in a Medieval Style, since 'The Lady of Shalott' (though it was written in 19th century deals with the Arthurian Cycle).

So today was the day,

our students let it play,

an outstanding burden of poems

came out bursting from the stems.

Running all the way,

our kids made them stay

in a fellow mate´ s brain,
as a shower of spring rain.

Os adjunto el vídeo de la dramatización del poema 'The Lady of Shalott' de Alfred L.Tennyson,emblema de la poesía de la Inglaterra Victoriana, trabajado, declamado y cantado por 6ºA y con la colaboración especial de Sofía, de 6°B representando a la Dama de Shalott.

Our students in Primary have devoted several days to reading and even writing some poems as a way to take part in those activities promoted by the Spanish Language Department.

Our little ones in 1º and 2º have enjoyed some songs and phonetics (tongue-twisters) in which rhyme is the main core of the texts.

3º has started writing poetry in English with some amazing outcome, such as Rafa´s:

"I play Pokémon Go,

but my level´s so low..."

We also watched a poem about a tired and depressed bee that lost its zest...

4º has done some research about some poets like Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, W.B. Yeats, William Shakespeare´s sonnets...

Their projects can be seen hanging on the school corridors and their portraits of such poets are to be watched in detail.

6º has dealt with the poem by Alfred L. Tennyson "The Lady of Shalott".

Some groups in A have learn some bits of the poem as the song Lorena McKennit sang. Some others have become Medieval scriveners, imitating those letters in ancient manuscripts.

Some others made some presentation with the paintings about the LAdy of Shalott that can be seen in some British museums.

Sofía, from 6ºB played the role of the Lady of Shalott while some other kids in 6ºA sang and read the poem in several classes in Primary.

6ºB has developed their creativity when writing some poems in English.

All in all, we felt challenged by poetry during several days, making it possible to start playing with words in another language to find our own inner voice.

16th November. International Day of Flamenco!

Buenas tardes a todos.
La UNESCO declaró al flamenco "patrimonio de interés cultural mundial" en 2010.
Los centros educativos lo celebramos cada 16 de noviembre (como ya hicimos el curso pasado).

Tuve la suerte de participar en un taller de flamenco cuando viví en Irlanda del Norte, a petición del Departamento de Español de uno de los colegios en los que trabajaba.
Como única habitante española del pueblo, un colegio me invitó a ir con ellos y sus alumnas de español de bachillerato a ver un espectáculo flamenco llamado "Jaleo" que se representaba en el teatro de la Ópera de Belfast.

Me di cuenta,entonces, de lo que se valora el flamenco en cualquier rincón del mundo.

5º de primaria ya está realizando su proyecto en Inglés sobre el Flamenco:

Halloween y el Día de los Santos

The biscuits and cake were yummy!!!

It seems Halloween is here to stay.
I obviously deal with it in my lessons, since it is a festival concerning the English speaking
countries.
Some facts I would like to deal with:

1. Halloween is not from the USA.
2. Halloween dates back to the Celtic festival known as Samhain.
3. The main city to celebrate Halloween is Londonderry (or Derry), in Northern Ireland, the place which claims to be the area where it started to be celebrated
4. I was lucky enough as to live an hour away from Derry, therefore my two and only
Halloween parties took place there. I don´t believe in it outside Ireland, and, therefore I am not in the mood for it if I am not in that country. So, it is time to deal with this Celtic based festival, bearing in mind that I don´t think
it looks real if not in Ireland, since it is there where it makes sense.
I still prefer eating some buñuelos on 1November, I guess it is the tradition I always
kept at home.

Today, 18th December, we recorded some videos in 2ºB, 4ºA and 4ºB.
We tried to talk a bit about Christmas, about the Christmas Tree they´ve made with teacher Sandra and they tried to sing the carol we learnt (which is quite difficult. They tried their best).

Yo lo he cantado más rápido... (no encuentro una versión algo más dinámica)
Lo escuché de pequeña en la película de Mujercitas (la version de Elizabeth Taylor) y me encantó. Es de mediados del siglo XIX.
Por eso lo busqué hace años hasta que dí con él.

6º cantará As I Went Down in the River To Pray. Lo aprendieron la generación de alumnos que ahora están en 2º de ESO. En realidad a mi me la enseñaron en Irlanda, en el grupo de canto al que iba cada semana y la cantamos varias veces alli en el escenario. (Hacíamos varias voces y sonaba muy bonito). La canción en sí no es un villancico sino una canción Gospel que cantaban los esclavos de las plantaciones y que se hizo conocida en la versión de Alison Krauss.La seño Eli ha decidido rescatarlo esta Navidad para sexto y, les ha encantado la idea.

As I Went Down in the River To Pray (Pinchad el enlace) Lo canta con un estilo country (por cierto, la música country es de origen irlandés, de los emigrantes que dejaron Irlanda en el siglo XIX a causa de la Potato Famine, la epidemia que atacó al cultivo de la patata y que causó pobreza y hambruna en el país. Los irlandeses que emigraron a USA llevaron su música con ellos... si habéis viajado a Irlanda alguna vez y habéis estado en una sesión de música tradicional, seguramente habréis escuchado la música tradicional celta y alguna que otra canción que os habrá recordado al country ;)
