Poetry

Our kids in 6º have devoted several lessons to The Lady of Shalott, a poem that dates back to 1832.
Alfred Tennyson wanted to depict the everyday life of a lady whose curse was to be forced to stay indoors.
In case she decided to look through the window, she would end up dying. Her only chance to feel alive was to watch the reflection of the outside world on a mirror in her room. She would sew those images as a way to be free.

Happy World Poetry Day. 21st March

Happy Poetry Day

21st March.
The International Poetry Day.
Here it goes.
"IF" by Rudyard Kipling is the poem we had started to deal with a few weeks ago in class.
It is written on the wall, right before entering Wimbledon's main court to remind players about the true values in oneself.
Enjoy

Poetry Day (21st March)

Whenever March strikes back, we devote some time to doing some research about poetry.

It all started three years ago when I went for some deep analysis of "The Lady of Shalott" (by Lord A. Tennyson), a poem about Camelot and the Arthurian Cycle (some compulsory reading for anyone who has studied "Filología Inglesa" in Spain).

Last year, I caught myself remembering those "good auld days" of my childhood. I decided to give "Annabel Lee" by E.A. Poe the place it deserves in our lives.

"If" by Rudyard Kipling is considered to embody all the values and virtue supposed to be achieved throughout a healthy and balanced life, so , what a great way to start saying bye to childhood!
It is time to start and get ready to welcome the so well-known  adolescence!
Therefore, we will work on it by translating it, adapting the poem into Spanish (without checking that awful, heartless and deprived of any emotion gadget called "Google"), making a song ,if possible, and performing some play (some brief account of the details portrayed).

Here I post a link to the poem. Enjoy it!:

Happy World Poetry Day

Our kids in 6° have dealt with the poem Annabel Lee by Edgar A. Poe.
Some kids have copied it in some bunting, some others learnt the song about it (Radio Futura), some others made the posters about it and the Romantic Era and, some others became our videoclip actors for a day!
