All our kids are doing better than fine in our weekly project about places in town.
We are really happy to announce that electricity came to town!!!!!
I guess I'll book a table in a cosy restaurant!

If I want to go for some healthy food, I´ll buy some fruit and then, when I end up tired of exploring the city and of learning about fish in the aquarium, I´ll go to sleep in a nice hotel. It sounds good, doesn´t it?

Day of the Cross
Good morning!
Our kids in 5º are devoting their weekly project hour to creating some leaflets to promote the Cross.
They are trying to explain how it feels to celebrate that day.

Día del Libro
A cualquier persona que opta por estudiar alguna Filología, la lectura siempre nos marca la infancia.
En mi caso, mis primeros recuerdos como lectora van unidos a Los Cinco,de Enid Blyton.Los comencé a leer desordenados pero, mi mejor recuerdo sobre ellos se remonta a una mañana de Reyes..me echaron "Los Cinco y el Tesoro de la Isla". Era el primero de la colección y,junto con "Los Cinco en las Rocas del Diablo" y "Los Cinco en la caravana" era el que nos faltaba para completarla.
Un libro que me leí hasta perder la cuenta fue "El Mundo Perdido" de Arthur Conan Doyle (autor de Sherlock Holmes).
También "Viaje al Centro de la Tierra" de Julio Verne,además de "El Rayo Verde".
Las andanzas de los "Hombrecitos" (secuela de "Mujercitas" de Louise May Alcott) también me robó horas de sueño.
Sin embargo,mis lecturas de la biblioteca de colegio y de los "Barco de Vapor" me llevaron a leer por primera vez sobre la Guerra Civil de Estados Unidos en el siglo XIX.Era una novela llamada "Norte y Sur", que,casualmente se emitía en la versión adulta en la televisión por aquella época.
Pero la novela que despertó mi pasión por el Inglés se la debo a mi profesora de BUP: Rocío.
Nos mandó leer "Jane Eyre" de Charlotte Brontë.Ese personaje tan marcado, el señor Rochester tan atormentado y los páramos de Yorkshire me impactaron de tal forma que me lo leí en la versión adaptada a mi edad y,con los años,en la versión Unabridged (tal y como fue escrita).
Ya con 11 años oí hablar del Rey Arturo y los Caballeros que buscaban el Santo Grial.

Fue en la serie Ana de las Tejas Verdes (Anne of Green Gables), basada en una novela de Lucy Maud Montgomery. En ella,Anne Shirley (la protagonista) era una lectora fanática,casi obsesiva del poema The Lady of Shalott (de Alfred Lord Tennyson,autor sagrado para la Filología Inglesa y el Ciclo Artúrico).
Escuchándola recitar en español (en aquella época la tele no podía cambiarse de idioma),me quedé con aquello de "Y teje de día y de noche una tela mágica de vivos colores.Y ha escuchado decir que una maldición caerá sobre ella si se queda contemplando Camelot.Y muy pocas cuitas tiene ella: la Dama de Shalott".
Creo que en aquella época comencé a descubrir cuál sería mi futuro:relacionado con la lectura y un idioma:el Inglés.
Mi homenaje a las letras no españolas es The Lady of Shalott de Tennyson.
Os adjunto la banda sonora de aquella serie de esa chica obsesionada con la Dama y el poema en sí (largo y en Middle English en las terminaciones verbales.La métrica de los versos es la conocida como Iambic Pentameter o Pentámetro Iámbico).

Project 3º
Good afternoon.
Our kids are having a great time getting their shops, hospital, pet shop, restaurants ready...
The idea is that they become familiar with how to welcome costumers and communicate efficiently in those situations.
Here I post some pics that show their work this week.

Today we approached New York and its well-known (imported from Europe) "pretzels" and then Austin,Texas and their Tex-Mex chicken wings!yummy!

Pueden consultar la nota del control en PASEN.La puntuación máxima es 3 puntos.
Adjunto un ejemplo visual de la parte bonita de corregir.Muchas veces nos encontramos verdades obras de arte.Es posible que le pida a la artista que nos ilustre algo más.
Estoy segura de que los centros de salud estarían muy bonitos con algo como esto...

Will you marry me?
Según una antigua tradición irlandesa que alguien me contó en 2004 (año bisiesto que yo viví precisamente alli...), el 29 de febrero era el día en el que las mujeres irlandesas pedían en matrimonio a los hombres (en una sociedad tan distinta a la actual era todo un logro).
Hace unos años que me traje este Claddagh Ring,el anillo típico de boda irlandés (no en mi caso,you know...)

What were you doing when...?
In 5° we are dealing with how to talk about past events.
We have also read about some events which made the world change,such as the Titanic sinking back in 1912 or the earthquake in Lisbon some centuries ago.
Here I post a picture I took two summers ago during my summer holidays in Cork.
The pic was taken in Cobh (the former Queenstown) in Ireland.
Cobh is well-known because it was the last calling port for the Titanic before she travelled the ocean and hit that iceberg which brought about such tragedy.
The sculptures are a homage to Annie Moore and her little brothers,who were the first immigrants registered in Ellis Island (where the Statue of Liberty stands) in New York,back to the end of 19th century and who departed Ireland from Cobh.

Children in 5º are getting a speech ready about a city in the world.
During this week, we are also dealing with the Ups and Downs of living in our city.
We all agree that traffic is the main issue to cope with.
